Born in Edinburg, TX, Judge Winfield earned a B.A. from College of St. Elizabeth in 1972 and an M.A. in American Studies from Seton Hall University in 1976. In 1981, Judge Winfield’s legal career began when she earned her J.D. from New York Law School. Before her appointment to the Bench, Judge Winfield was an associate at Corwin & Solomon. Judge Winfield then served as an Assistant United States Trustee for the Districts of Delaware and New Jersey from 1985-1991. In 1991, Judge Winfield was appointed to the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey.
Judge Winfield retired from the Court in 2015 but remains a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association, the National Association of Women Judges, and the American Bankruptcy Institute, and is a frequent lecturer for the Institute of Continuing Legal Education.
