Judge De Coster, son of Samuel R. and Deborah De Coster, was born in Basking Ridge, New Jersey on October 21, 1856.

He attended public school and prepared for his profession by study in law offices. Admitted to the Bar of New Jersey on June 3, 1880.

In 1898 he was appointed Referee in Bankruptcy. Judge De Coster was a member of Overlook Lodge No. 163 Free and Accepted Masons. He was married to Ella Dean.
